Here are some Tipster statistics ("statipstics") for the curious or bored...
Of the 63 matches completed before the World Cup Final....
Correct Score:
The Correct Score was tipped in 36 matches. The most successful matches were Denmark - Australia and Brazil - Belgium, with 7 people predicting the correct Score in each game.
Correct Margin:
The Correct Margin was tipped in 42 matches, with 10 people expecting France to beat Argentina by a single goal.
Correct Outcome:
In this unpredictable World Cup, there were only 5 matches were nobody tipped the correct Outcome; Germany played in two of them. There were 17 people who tipped Portugal to beat Morocco without anybody tipping the correct Score.
The two most evenly tipped games were Japan - Senegal, with 4 people tipping for Japan, 4 for Senegal, and 8 people tipping a 1-1 draw. That match ended 2-2. The other was Sweden - Switzerland, with 7 people tipping the Swedes, 7 the Swiss, and 4 tipping a draw. That game ended with Sweden winning 1-0.
First Scorer:
Thirteen people correctly tipped Ronaldo to score the opening goal against Morocco, and thirteen people correctly selected Suarez to score first against Saudi Arabia. But the most successful popular choice was Salah to score first for Egypt against the Saudis, with 18 people correctly tipping him. The only person who didn't choose Salah was Ralph, who forgot to tip that game.
Points:
The game which yielded the most points was France - Australia, with a combined total of 148 points being scored in that match. There were several games where a total of just 3 points were gained (from somebody tipping the closest time): Germany - Mexico, Poland - Senegal, Spain - Morocco, and South Korea - Germany. The average combined points per game was 72.
Goals:
62 goals were tipped for the France - Belgium semi-final: 30 for France and 32 for Belgium. Alex's tip of Croatia to beat France by 1158 goals to nil doesn't count here since these stats only cover the first 62 matches. :-) Just 30 goals were tipped for the Sweden - South Korea match (21 for the Swedes and 9 for the Koreans).
More closely tipped were Japan - Senegal, with 21 goals tipped for each team; while Sweden and Switzerland each received tips for 18 goals. The lowest tip was for a single goal: Tino tipped Belgium to beat Tunisia 2-1, but nobody else expected Tunisia to score even one goal (the match actually ended 5-2).
For the France - Australia match, 53 French goals were tipped, the most for one team, while just 6 goals were tipped for Australia, giving this match the biggest delta.
